Is The Burntwood Post Newspaper Pointless?

February 25th, 2011

I haven’t received a copy of the Burntwood Post (used to be the ‘Chase Post’?) for years.  I stopped receiving one at my old address and have never received one during my 4 years at my current address.  I just checked their website out of curiosity and, while there is plenty of news dated 24th February for Cannock.  The latest Burntwood news on there is dated 9th December 2010!  Do they even bother with Burntwood any more?

As usual, Burntwood seems lost in the middle of Cannock and Lichfield and loses out in all kinds of facilities and services to its two more attention-seeking neighbours, even news coverage of local issues.  Nothing new there but will it ever change?

Poor Local News Coverage

August 24th, 2010

I only noticed recently how poor the local media is in covering Burntwood events.  There are several significant events in the last couple of months that have gone almost completely unreported.  Rumours have circulated around the net regarding some of them but there are others that never make any of the mainstream news even the free local papers and the Express and Star.  Here’s a few I’m aware of:

1)  July 1st.  Cannabis factory raided on Chase Road.  Large number of plants taken away.

2)  July 3rd/4th?  Assault on teenager at Chasewater.  Media did cover but only to confirm that an “assault” took place in response to rumours linking it to the shooting/murder on the 5th July.  According to rumour it was no simple “assault”.  The teenager was beaten and tortured.

3)  July 5th?  Armed police raid a house in Springhill Road.

How much more goes on that we never hear about?  Given the short span of these events it is no wonder rumours circulated making  links which may or may not exist.  It just seems that if these events occurred anywhere else they’d have been reported by the media.  Has anyone got any links to them being covered?

Burntwood can’t be that sleepy that it completely slips under the radar!?

Update: Found some coverage (and here) on the teenager.  Seems like after a month had passed, a little news managed to filter out on that one.  Reports say a possible link to an unpaid debt whereas the rumours have it as stolen drugs money.
