Morph4us Community Art in Burntwood

Browsing the Burntwood Town Council Agenda for 30th June 2011 looking for something else, I came across mention of a presentation by a community art group in Burntwood called Morph4us who want the council to consider an idea for two art projects at bus shelters in the town.  The bus shelters are on located at High Street, Chase Terrace (adjacent to St John’s Community Church) and  at Chase Road, Burntwood (lay-by close to 194 Chase Road).

The group is responsible for the art on the side of the Old Mining College in Chasetown as well as work inside Burntwood Leisure Centre and is led by local young people working with residents to create a community art project in the form of a “walking gallery” around Burntwood.

I have not seen any details yet regarding their proposals for the bus shelters but if they get the go-ahead, I would hope that their work survives the beating that these shelters get from the “it’s the weekend let’s smash something up” element of the community.  I would imagine it’s a hazard faced by any kind of community art group, regardless of where they are.

I’m looking forward to seeing what they create.
