Illegal To Leave A Bus Unattended?

Getting ready to leave the house this morning, we found an Arriva bus sitting across our drive with the engine running and passengers on board.  The driver was in the shop, I assume getting his lunch or some cigarettes.  Apart from being annoying to me as a resident, surely that is illegal and the driver faces not only the sack but possible endorsements on or removal of his PCV License?  I’m amazed that passengers would put up with a driver just jumping off and doing some shopping, but maybe it happens a lot and they’re used to it.  What if some idiot had decided to go for a joyride?

If you’re the driver of the Arriva bus, no 3489, used on the route along Chase Road from Burntwood this morning at 7:15, you were told that we would be reporting you and I’m tempted to follow through with it, but I don’t know the consequences for you if I do.  I wouldn’t advise doing it again…….
